First classes are nerve-wracking. You don't know where to stand, what to wear, or whether you'll look foolish in front of strangers. We get it — and we've designed every part of the new client experience to take that pressure off.
Here's exactly what to expect when you walk through our doors for the first time.
Wear form-fitting, comfortable clothes — nothing too loose, because your instructor needs to see your alignment. Grip socks are required on the reformer (we sell them at the studio if you don't have a pair). Arrive 10 minutes early so we can get you set up and oriented without rushing.
Eat something light beforehand. You'll be moving your body in new ways, and an empty stomach makes that harder. A heavy meal is equally problematic — give yourself at least an hour if you've eaten a full meal.
We'll introduce you to the space, show you where everything is, and walk you through the basic equipment setup. If you're in a Reformer Foundations class, your instructor will explain the spring system — what tension is appropriate and how to adjust it. Nothing is assumed.
You won't be thrown into sequences you don't understand. The whole point of a Foundations class is to build the vocabulary first.
Expect to move slowly and with a lot of cueing. Your instructor will call out alignment, breathing, and modifications throughout. It's normal to feel like you're doing less than the person next to you — you're learning a new language, not competing.
A few things first-timers often notice:
You may feel a subtle soreness in the next 24–48 hours — not the sharp, depleted feeling of a hard cardio session, but a deep muscle awakening. Most people describe it as feeling like they've been put back together rather than torn apart.
We'll check in after class and answer any questions. If you're considering a membership, that's a great time to talk through the options.
Your first class probably won't feel graceful. That's completely fine. No one's first class does. What it will feel like is a beginning — and that's exactly what it's supposed to be.
